The 6th Annual

CALIFORNIA GLOBAL YOUTH PEACE SUMMIT

June 10th - June 15th, 2018

Foresthill, CAlifornia

Uniting youth from all over the world to create a community of inspired youth leaders.

The 6th Annual California Global Youth Peace Summit unites 50+ youth (ages 14-17) from more than 20 countries for a week focused on leadership development, personal growth, and cultural exchange.  Youth who participate come from all walks of life including youth born and raised in California as well as immigrant and refugee youth who have recently resettled in the Bay Area.

Partner organizations include:

  • Amala Foundation
  • Oakland International High School
  • The Mosaic Project
  • Canal Alliance
  • Leap Now
  • Center for Empowering Refugees & Immigrants
  • International Rescue Committee
  • Refugee Transitions
  • Project Avary
  • Urban Promise Academy

The Global Youth Peace Summit is not about being “peaceful,” it is about being real and showing up with a willingness to grow, to learn and to discover how you can impact the world just by being yourself.  The Summit is place to feel heard, to be celebrated, to be uplifted and to make lasting connections with inspired youth from around the globe.  The Summit helps you discover what gifts lie inside of you and gives you the confidence to share them with the world.

The Summit provides an opportunity to see that beyond our nationality, ethnicity, beliefs, past experiences and present circumstances, we are all human beings who essentially want the same things: acceptance, equity, hope and peace. This fundamental understanding ignites compassion. The Summit inspires youth to turn this compassion into action by giving them the necessary tools and support to make an impact in their homes, their communities, their world, among their peers and within themselves.

Get Involved

Sponsor a youth

Approximately 85% of the youth who participate receive a scholarship in order to do so. Our future leaders would not have the opportunity to have this experience without the generous support of people like you.  It costs $750 for youth to attend the Summit for a week; this includes room, board, transportation, activities and curriculum.  Every donation - $10, $25, $50 - is greatly appreciated and makes a difference.

What is the summit?

The Summit is a place to grow...

Some of the youth who attend the Summit have experienced extremely difficult circumstances including child labor, gang violence, abuse, neglect and even war.  Many have been uprooted from their native cultures and are struggling to feel accepted in an entirely foreign world.  By sharing their stories with others, Summit participants feel heard, empowered and a part of something bigger than themselves.

The Summit is a place for learning...

Through team-building exercises, leadership development activities, cultural exchange opportunities, and dialogue circles, the youth learn skills for conflict resolution, non-violent communication, compassionate response, and peace-focused leadership.

The Summit is a place for authenticity..

At the Summit, every youth is allowed to be themselves, completely.  The invitation is simple – come as you are - youth at the Summit quickly realize that who they are, not who they pretend to be, is an essential part of the community and this world.

The Summit is a place for connection and inspiration...

The Summit unites young people from around the world and gives them an opportunity to see the thread that connects us all - our humanity.

our story

the california community is rising!

Our dear friends over at the Amala Foundation in Austin, Texas have hosted the California Summit for the past five years.  Their intention since the first Summit in 2013 was to eventually have the local community in California take ownership of the Summit experience.

This Summit, the sixth annual, will be the first California Summit that will be entirely stewarded by the California community!  We welcome your support as we aim to strengthen our local community around this important work.
